My little tribute to Robin Williams

Image
It was during a busy day (yesterday) when I heard about the death of one of my favorite actors Robin Williams from a colleague who casually asked me through Skype if I knew him. Apparently, she had heard from a client too about the news and googled Robin Williams and then recalled who he was. Me, I didn’t need to google him because I knew him. I felt like I grew up seeing his movies, both laughing and crying to them as well. And like I normally am during deaths, I cried.  I then went to google and saw news about his death which I didn’t really pay much attention to because my eyes were clouded in tears just seeing pictures of Robin Williams flashing on the screen. I wanted to write a tribute to him but since I was too busy and too distracted, I couldn’t make one. I was planning to just re-blog an old post Great Movies to Watch but I just needed to make a more personalized one and something that really required some effort. After all, it was technically my last f...

A local Cebuano's guide to the best of Cebu

Image
One of my clients is visiting Cebu for the first time and her last email to me got me all nervous... Hi Nel, Flying out now. Thanks for the offer. Love to hear about thing to do in Cebu. I am not nervous because I have nothing to offer; because Cebu definitely has a lot to offer! I know Cebu because I have spent a lifetime here (literally) ! I want every visitor to experience Cebu entirely but obviously short-term visitors can only experience so much in a few days and cramming everything up in such a short time can be dreadfully tiring and could end up in disaster. Something I definitely would not want to happen. There are just  so many things (too many even) that I would like to brag to visitors about Cebu and so it is just a matter of choosing the best ones that I know are a real embodiment of Cebu and something that visitors would really appreciate. So fancy restaurants and busy urbanized places will definitely be off of my list and instead ...

Create your own animated gif in three easy steps

Image
If you would like to create your own animated gif for your projects or just to spice up your website but have little to no experience, here are three simple steps to creating your own gif like a pro! Step 1:  In the application paint (or any other visual application you have) , create your own drawings. (These can also be your pictures.) Here are the drawings I created in Paint. Because I want to create a visual story, all of my pictures have a certain order.     Step 2:   Once you have your drawings/pictures completed, open the http://picasion.com/ website. There are many other online free applications available but so far this one has been simple and easy to use on standard images so I am recommending it. (If I am not mistaken, there are other websites that can process audio and video files, depending on the complexity of the gif you are trying to create. Mine is pretty simple for now.)   Step 3:  While in the h...

Creative Juices Art Project: my very own animated gif

Image
Just because I feel more creative and want to add other types of media to my blog.. I decided to create my own GIF. The drawings were mine but there is an online application that will automate it for you - http://gifmaker.me/. Try it out as well! For those who are not familiar with GIF, here is a Wikipedia description: The  Graphics Interchange Format  (better known by its acronym  GIF ;  / ˈ dʒ ɪ f /  or  / ˈ ɡ ɪ f / ) is a  bitmap image format  that was introduced by  CompuServe  in 1987 [1]  and has since come into widespread usage on the  World Wide Web  due to its wide support and portability. In layman's term, it simply means an animated picture or group of pictures. Anyway, here is my little art project of sorts.. hehe... I might actually add this "skill" to my resume once I perfect it. (assuming I do ofcourse.. hehehe..good luck to that!) Here is another first for me as well.. (not sure why but w...

Drawing 101.2

Image
Because I am working hard at improving my drawing skills (if you could actually call it that.. hehe..) , I have created another Paint drawing of my outfit for today. Not sure if it has improved since yesterday but here are a few observations:            - It is harder to use the mouse to draw that it is to use the pencil or the pen (I have nothing but respect and awe to the graphic artists for being so good with their craft while using only the mouse!)            - It is better to work on your project when it is zoomed in because you can see the lines better, but to appreciate it, you need to zoom out for the bird's eye view                  - Paint is not the best application to use for nice drawings because of its limited functions but it is one of the best tools to get elementary drawing lessons like what I am getting right now... ;-)       ...

Drawing 101

Image
Since yesterday, while I obsessed about what to wear for this Saturdays debutante party with the goddess theme that we were invited to; and after googling images of “goddess costumes/dresses, etc”; I’ve started sketching what I think I might/should wear. What was supposed to be just a sketch of what I would wear quickly became more sketches of other dresses and designs. I took pictures of those so I can upload them here later.   (They don’t really offer me bragging rights, but certainly a start at gaining or improving my drawing skills.. hehe) Honestly, if I had some talent in drawing, it would definitely be limited to stick figures, suns, moons, stars, flowers, spider webs, trees, apples, nipa huts and other very simple things. (Ofcouse the basic shapes are a given) I envy those who can draw (and those who can dance) and even envisioned myself making my own comics! (Greatly inspired by the blog posts on LET ME BE FRANK, which I really enjoy reading) I can dream of course...

Another perspective on the ordinary nail cutter and jeepney driver....

Image
I decided to add an educational/historical/scientific element to my blog in the hopes of giving a little bit of importance to ordinary items/persons that we use/mingle with on a daily basis. Just some things that we normally take for granted and only realize their need or use when they are missing or no longer available. For my first item, I chose the humble and sometimes insignificant nail cutter. Item:     Nail Cutter Reason for Choosing:       My nails seem (or at least I think it does) to grow quicker than anyone else’s and so I like to keep a nail cutter in my bag, handy and ready for when the need arises. However, it appears I have misplaced both my nail cutters and so my fingernails are longer than I need them to be. I keep my fingernails really short and because they are longer now, it is quite uncomfortable when typing on the keyboard and hazardous to the face and body (mine especially) when too much force is app...
